Since sharing my aluminium boat build online, one of the most common things people ask about isn't the boat—it's the shed. This workshop has become the home of my fabrication projects, Weld Dr product testing, and countless hours of building, welding, and problem-solving.
The shed measures 13 metres long, 8 metres wide, with a 3.6 metre gutter height, providing plenty of room for fabrication work, equipment, and larger projects like my aluminium boat build. Access is through a 6 metre wide sliding door, making it easy to move boats, trailers, and materials in and out of the workshop.
To keep the workspace comfortable year-round, the shed is fitted with 50mm thick rock wool insulation, helping regulate temperature and reduce noise. Lighting is provided by eight LED high-bay lights, ensuring the workshop stays bright and practical whether I'm welding, fabricating, or working late into the evening.
One of the most useful additions has been the gantry crane, measuring 3.8 metres wide by 3.8 metres tall and good for 2 tonnes. It allows me to lift and move heavy components around the workshop without relying on additional equipment.
Power was another priority when designing the shed. The workshop is supplied with 32-amp three-phase power and includes 18 single-phase outlets positioned throughout the shed, providing plenty of capacity for welders, machinery, power tools, and future expansion.
The workshop continues to evolve as new projects come through the door, but this setup has provided a solid foundation for everything from building an aluminium boat to testing the tools and equipment used every day in the Weld Dr workshop.
